Frog Legs Inc
Overview
Frog Legs Inc is a globally recognized manufacturer specializing in aftermarket wheelchair suspension systems. Founded on the principle of reducing the severe jolts and vibrations experienced by manual wheelchair users, the company pioneered the modern shock-absorbing caster fork.
The History of Frogs Legs
1994 - The Inspiration
Mark Chelgren, who had a background in Astro- and Geo-Physics, befriended members of a quadriplegic rugby team. He noticed how minor obstacles translated into a bumpy, jarring ride that often caused muscle spasms, lower back pain, and skin shear for the users.
1996 - The Science
Chelgren founded Frog Legs and partnered with Iowa State University to conduct dynamic testing. The studies proved that 80% of the vibration in a wheelchair comes from the front caster forks and wheels.
1997 - Patent and Production
Chelgren received a patent for his groundbreaking suspension caster forks and began manufacturing in a facility in Vinton, Iowa.
2006 - Global Expansion
The company relocated to Ottumwa, Iowa, expanding its operations and cementing its reputation as the worldwide expert in lightweight, high-strength wheelchair suspension systems.
