    Wheelchair Voucher Scheme

The voucher scheme is a scheme intended to offer a great choice of wheelchairs to people with mobility needs.  A voucher normally to the value of the wheelchair, which the NHS would have provided, will be issued and the wheelchair user is then required to provide funding for the difference between the NHS chair and the chosen chair.

There are now options that clients will be offered, after an assessment, these are as follows:-

Option 1
For the user to accept the NHS wheelchair prescribed, this to be supplied (loaned) and maintained free of charge to the user for as long as they require it.

Option 2
For the user to contribute to the cost of a more expensive wheelchair of their choice. This may only be done provided it is agreed by NHS Trust that the chair meets their clinical needs. The user would then own the chair and be responsible for its maintenance and repair. This voucher incorporates a sum towards the maintenance and repair. This is called the Independent Option.
